    The lunar eclipse is when the moon in its full moon phase lines up excatly with the Earth and the sun. The moon's orbit around Earth is a 5º tilt, therefore it will not happen every full moon, but perhaps only about twice a year.

    The color has to do with the sun's rays interfering with the moon's atmosphere, I think. Lunar eclipses can look orange. Some people observe small parts of blue.
