    The current 3ds doesnt have the processing power to handle running both at the same time.

    Smash Bros uses more RAM than other 3DS games. It's why it also is slow at starting up. It basically reboots the 3DS with some functionality disabled. The New 3DS has more memory and Miiverse will work on it while playing Smash.

    The 3DS can't use Miiverse when you're playing Smash 3DS due to RAM constraints. It takes up a lot of the 3DS' resources, so it disables Miiverse and the web browser while you're using it.
