The best cards in the game by type: Fire: Rapidash - has good HP, can stall with Agility, and has no drawbacks to its attacks (failure rate, Energy detatch, etc) Water: Dewgong - This thing is INSANE. 50 dmg every turn for 3 Energy and no drawbacks, plus it's a Stage 1 (isn't too hard to get). Fighting: Hitmonchan - 70HP, Basic, 20 dmg for 1 Energy. Need I say more? Continued in comments...

For the sake of this discussion I was deliberately excluding the 4 Legendary Pokémon (although Dragonite is pretty average imo). If we're counting those, then Moltres and Zapdos would probably take the top spots for their respective types based on their ABSURD Powers. I'd still personally argue that Dewgong is the single best Water card in the game though due to Aurora Beam being 50 pwr/3 Energy.

I mean, think about it. It needs 2 Water Energies + 1 Colorless to do 50 dmg with absolutely no drawbacks. It even has a 2nd attack if you have another Water Energy to spare, which does 30 but can Paralyze. Dewgong only evolves off one Basic and gets prepped in 3 turns to dish out 50 dmg every turn. It's not uncommon to dish out 200+ dmg before being KO'd; I can't really say that about other mons.

While Blastoise is certainly amazing, it lacks the insane consistency of Dewgong. Being a Stage 2 makes it much harder to reliably get out and also means you have need to run more cards (4 Basics, 3 Stage 1's, and 2-3 Stage 2's as opposed to just 4 Basics and 3 Stage 1's). This means you can run more of those amazing Trainer Cards like Bill, Prof. Oak, Comp. Search, Energy Removal, etc.

I can completely understand Moltres (and even the original is good for Wildfire potential) but the riskiest of all the Zapdos is the best electric? I know, 70 for three energy. Amazing. That damaging your own bench? Horrible.

It is very risky I'll admit, but when facing that the Grand Masters I recall Zapdos being SOOO ANNOYING. It would go on the bench and snipe one of my wounded mons for 30, then he'd Scoop Up and do it again! Courtney was the hardest, but that Zapdos guy (forgot his name) provided the 2nd highest difficulty for me.

That's because it's the grand master... Other than Zapdos must include all Zapdos. ....And I beat him with a Water/Fighting mix. Dugtrio just plowed through him, I'm pretty sure.

Yeah, but the Birds are immune to Fighting types. Overall I just found Zapdos to be absurd to go against. It requires luck, but if your opponent has more Pokémon than you do then chances are you'll KO something on their side.

...Now I remember what happened. I think Dugtrio softened him up, and Dewgong finished him up, with Hitmonchan cleaning up. Zapdos is pretty strong in terms of resists. The best in taking him on may be, ironically, another electric type. ...Now that I think of it, none of the four have an electric resist. Nor Ronald.

That's a good point. I found Dragonite to be highly mediocre; hardly legendary. I'll definitely agree though that Moltres is the best of the 4. I started using Venomoth recently and it certainly has its uses. 10 dmg for 2 Energies is kinda weak, but no Retreat Cost and the possibility of inflicting Poison AND Confusion? That's pretty good. I've also been using Arbok; it's better than it looks!

So which of Arbok's assets are you liking best? (I bet it's Poison Fang.) I have another underappreciated card: Tentacruel! 0 retreat cost and a nice (but weak) set of attacks. As for Dragonite, its best treating it as a colorless. Not that you can't say it isn't good, but remember to compare Healing Wind to Step Up. I think its a matter of preference.

Arbok's Poison Fang is just awesome. I also like how it can phase stuff out like a Gust of Wind. As for Dragonite, I feel it's hampered by the fact that there were no EX cards yet, thus it HAS to go through its evolutionary line. In all honesty, I sometimes prefer Dragonair over Dragonite due to Hyper Beam.

With Pokemon Breeder, you can evolve a basic directly to stage 2, effectively getting it out a turn faster. With that and a good set of trainers, it is very normal for a competitive Blastoise deck to get him out on turn 2 or 3. Because of his ability, if you get him out that early, you have a HUGE advantage over your opponent in that you can power up your attackers instantly.

Dewgong will help you win individual skirmishes, but Blastoise is the engine you use for winning the war.

That's true, but Pkmn Breeder is an insanely rare card (at least for me). I've beaten the game and challenged everyone at least 3 times and still have yet to get a Lass or Pkmn Breeder. Which packs are they in?

Lass is in Labrotory packs, and I think breeder's in Evolution packs. Relying on breeder for an engine is a bit unreliable... sometimes a key card doesn't arrive. Blastoise's Pokemon Power is really good, but Blastoise himself is really energy inefficient. Not a problem with good times. Becomes a huge problem when staring down Electricity, Mewtwo or something similarly threatening.

Yeah, they are both rare cards. Lass is in Laboratory and Pokemon Breeder is in Evolution.

I need to grind for Laboratory and Evolution packs to get those cards. Do you guys know an efficient method to get packs quickly? I personally liked dueling that girl in the Water club since she's one of the few people that duels with only two prizes, but I think she gives Coliseum packs IIRC.
