One thing I love about this game is that all the gameplay takes place on the top screen, and on the bottom screen is the map, menus, lists, luigi's face, and all the other stuff. (Giant battles span both screens.)

Same thing with some of the games on the Wii U. For example, MK8 on the gamepad is who is in what place, the map of the course and who's where, and a kart horn.
