For mii it was instantaneous. Maybe you forgot to save your mii after you made the changes. :/

OH I just changed my color but it hasn't kicked in yet maybe it wont let you change your mii so soon after an earlier alteration.

disconnect from the internet for a minute or so then reconnect it should show the changes then.
