Thought this was interesting- I tested this, and it appears that the more expensive a gift is the more dramatically it affects the happiness bar. I tried this with a crown ($1000) and a straw hat ($15ish)- each time, the Mii only liked the crown and got a roughly 85% happiness bar boost, and each time the Mii loved the hat and only got a 15% happiness bar boost. BAM.
