Anyone remember the arcade version? Single handedly defined the beat 'em up genre.

Oh yeah I remember. I was so sad that my nes couldn't do the same graphics and sounds BUT... man, I did love the nes version.

  • I first played it co-op with my brother at the local Pizza Hut. The sound of the aluminum bat sailing through the air was so realistic. I thought the biggest let down of the NES was it was 1 player!

The sega master system version was 2 players , good graphics but still, I liked the nes version a lot better. At least in DD2 , not only it's 2 players but it was super cool.

  • I forgot that it was also on the Master System! I'd like to revisit the sequel too, it must have been a rental for me. I always felt like Streets of Rage came the closest at capturing the grit of DD.

  • Agree! I always prefered the DD series than any other and there is a good reason. PLATFORMING. In final figh and Ninja turtle for example, you always go to the right.

  • In DD you often climb ladders, jump from bridges, enter doors and elevators, jump from a wheel to another wheel over the spikes, climb a train, holes to avoid, see? Not just going to the right.

  • Nice observation. Funny, I like the Dungeons and Dragons beat em up game, which has a jump button, but never one is it needed! So platforming in beat em ups is good to break up the monotony!

Exactly! Still, I like TMNT and final fight but I don't understand why there is absolutly no platforming in ALL those beat'em up games exept for DD.
