    Bandai-Namco doesn't own the rights to Goku, Akira Toriyama does. He simply allows them to use his characters, for a cut of their profit. They can't use any DBZ characters without his approval.

    And Goku's first and foremost a manga character. He's a anime character second, and a video game character third. Smash is for characters that originated from video games, not comics.
