    You may just need to level up a bit. I think I was in the 20's when I faced it (I also hadn't used black mage yet).

    The dragon is tough the only move you need to worry about is the "tail sweep" i believe it's called. Other than that use thunder on black mage it his weakness i think it's been a while since i fought

    i fought it at level 25, up dated gear before as well, darn thing was guarded against monks special. weak against ice i believe.

    It was funny though because Edea was a knight in my fight v.s. it and she could take a hit from him. I ran out of phoenix downs and Edea had White magic as her second ability the dragon had about 1000

    hp left and to cut the story short she soloed the last part of the fight i said to myself "Yep Edea's awesome" I put her in the first character slot lol.
