I've also encountered a group of three K. Sludge that wiped out my party. Those must be the most rewarding enemies in the game!

Yeah! The K Sludges give the most experience, but the best way to defeat them is with Ryu's second set of dragon spells. If your level's high enough, you can defeat them in one move.

I guess they're a lot tuffer than I remember, been a while since I played. When I get back to that point in the game, I have to try and remember what my whole battle strategy was against them.

They hit very hard and fast, and they also cast Death a lot.

The giant Chorkings are extremely hard to kill as well, but thankfully that's where Bow's shot skill can come in handy. It's strictly a luck shot attack, but when it does hit, it's a one shot kill.

Devil Katt's Keep ability also hit enemies through their defenses. It takes two rounds to use, but then she deals (to a high defense enemy like the Giant Chorking) about 400HP of dmg instead of 1-2HP!
