"Part 2: Making preperations for the fire temple" of a max % only child file. This part is not as interesting, but nevertheless, it has to be gone over.

  • Go into the crawlspace where you get the Kokiri sword, then go back through it. As soon as you get out, quickly make your way over to the sign or talk to Navi (I prefer using Navi). You need to talk to Navi or read the sign before the view focuses back on Link (goes back to normal). As soon as the text box shows up, throw a deku nut.

  • If done correctly, you'll still be reading the sign or talking to Navi, but you can move around. This is what is referred to as the "walking while talking" glitch. Pressing "A" will deactivate the glitch. Instead, press "B" to pass the text. Once you do, the map will re-appear, even though you're still in "walking while talking" mode.

  • WARNING: At this point, do NOT press "A", or Link will freeze and you'll have to reset the software. (What a bummer!)

  • Use the map to help you navigate to the forest exit. When you get to the tunnel that leads to the bridge, Link will simply exit, because the Kokiri that's supposed to be blocking the way won't be able to stop you. On the bridge, the cuts scene with Saria will trigger, just like it should...So you get the fairy ocarina without completing the deku tree.

  • It may have occurred to you to try going on the bridge from the Hyrule side, but the cut scene only triggers when you enter the bridge from the Hyrule side.

  • If you want, go to Lake Hylia to save. Also, now that you have an ocarina, you can make up the scarecrow song—it may seem useless as a kid, but that’s not quite true. It’ll be kind of nice to have in the shadow temple, but you don’t have to. What does it do as a kid? You’ll see, but it doesn’t really matter right now.

  • If you want, go to Lon Lon ranch to learn Epona’s song. Then head to Kakariko Village again. If you wish, take the time to learn the sun’s song too. Did you know that the sun’s song is needed for a heart piece in an unmarked grave at the graveyard? (For walkthroughs, guides on getting heart pieces, gold skulltulas, and just about anything else that’s not a glitch, check out: ZeldaDungeon.net

  • It has walkthroughs and side quest guides for quite a few games, including ocarina of time.)

  • Climb up to Goron Village, and use Zelda’s Lullaby and Saria’s song to get the goron bracelet. Then blow up the rock blocking dodongo’s cavern. Go ahead and do the whole cavern, including fighting king dodongo, picking up the heart container (you’ll want to help increase your heat timer in hot places), and receiving the goron ruby.

  • Then go to Goron Village to get one of your bomb bag upgrades (stop the big rolling goron with bombs near the sign that says, “You might get something good if you stop me!”. Next, climb to the top of Death Mountain to get your magic bar. Let the owl up there fly you down to Kakariko Village, because he puts you on a roof, which allows you to get a heart piece (see zeldadungeon if you need help.

  • Head to Zora’s river and use your hammer to break the rocks (why waste bombs?). Reminder: buy at least one magic bean that you won’t plant, unless you’re going to put off getting any masks and keep Zelda’s autograph until you get the water medallion. This is not vital, but makes it so that you’ll be able to carry more fairies when you fight morpha, the water temple boss. Doesn’t make sense?

  • Don’t worry about it for now. Get to Zora’s domain, go diving to obtain the silver scale, and use the shortcut to get to Lake Hylia and pick up the bottle with a message in it. (This is the perfect time to save with the fishing rod on B.) Go back to Zora’s domain and show the bottle to King Zora. After he finally finishes moving, go to Zora’s fountain and get farore’s wind.

  • We’re not quite ready to go to the fire temple, but here’s some heat timer advice (death mountain crater and some of the rooms in the fire temple are really hot, you know): You get 8 seconds on your heat time for every heart. Example—with three heart containers filled up, you have 24 seconds. If you’re missing 1 of those hearts, you’ll only get 16 seconds.

    Yeahs1

  • Also, if your heat timer goes down to zero, it’s game over, but fairies can revive you, so if you have 3 filled up hearts and three fairies, you get 24 seconds four times. You cannot let Link actually die of heatstroke, because seeing the game over screen removes the megaton hammer. One person did the fire temple as a kid with 8 heart containers and 2 fairies.

  • I did it with 9 heart containers and 3 fairies; if you don’t mess up at all, you don’t need the third fairy, but I like to take it for comfort, because if you DO mess up...

  • A note: If you’re thinking of making fake bottles to hold more fairies, that won’t work. Fairies that you scoop in fake bottles will NOT automatically revive you.

  • A tip: An easy way to get fairies for free is to stand near one of the many gossip stones that are littered throughout Hyrule and play Zelda’s Lullaby, Epona’s song, or the Song of Time. If you are close enough, a fairy that you can scoop up in a bottle will appear. If you exit the area and come back, you can do it again to get another fairy. Very nice!

  • That wraps up part 2. I'll post "Part 3: Final business before the fire temple: getting the nocturne of shadow" as soon as I can. I'm still working on making part 4.

  • Yes, you heard me correctly; we are going to get the nocturne of shadow as a child!
