Hey bro, I recently got down to 42.76 on Barinade and broke the existing WR ... but then Nico befriended me, and promptly discovered the timer manipulation you called the bottle exploit. There is one spot on Barinade I can see putting it to use to improve, but it feels really cheap. Such a pure, skilled boss rush. I thought only the hookshot glitch marred it, but now...

  • Hey, nice to hear from you! Yeah, today was the first I had heard of that bottle trick. Saw Nico posting his times so I did some digging on zeldaspeedruns. Doubt I'll try using it on other bosses though, it made Dodongo super complicated and he's one of the basic ones. I think I'm happy enough just having broke sub 20 seconds on that thing ;)

  • I went from 49.03 to 39.13 on PG w/ it, very low complexity to the application there. Preliminary results on KD are not in your league though bro! Bomb flowers are in my way a bunch heh, got some work to do ... I'm not good at it w/ side hops yet, using a lot of backflips instead, but it seems like they would offer better results.

  • Mine too. While I only compete at Cyberscore, I've searched for many records across the web to see if there are better results and never stumbled onto it before. There's a good chance they'll rule against these results. Glitches are okay there, but timer manipulation, like pause abuse, is not.

  • I think I only used cyberscore for some Mario Galaxy 2 back when it came out, I got overwhelmed since the competition was brutal. That said, I really do think that this bottle exploit has a ton of potential for competition. If you have good timing you'll only be gaining 10 centiseconds between backflips. Time is saved by doing this on timely sidehops. There's a lot of room for variance and error.

  • Yeah, I can see that point. I was just reading the reactions from the ZSR folks on their forum from early 2012, and while that side was argued, the prevailing sentiment was it was a shoddy oversight by Grezzo that ruined it for a lot of people. But LoZ is made for a mass audience, not always tailored to guys like us. The labeled “hard cores” or whatever ...
