    That's actually what you're supposed to do. Cut all of the vines that are hanging at the top. Run around as fast as you can (rolling is your friend) and react quickly. Once you cut one side, go to the next side and do it again. Good luck!

    then whack the plant in the center with the sword, leave after about 3 hits to avoid getting eaten and repeat, also you'd better bring a fairy, just in case
