We lost a great man, and a huge Zelda fan yesterday. Let us all reminisce on Robin Williams, how he made us all laugh, and how his daughter is named after this series.

Actually his daughter wasn't named after the game Zelda, she was named after a ancient queen.

Wrong, oh so wrong. Robin Williams had played the original Legend of Zelda game around the time it came out, and he fell in love with it. So much so to the point that he named his daughter after the game to give him something to smile about whenever he said her name. Princess Zelda derives her name from Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald, a poet whom Shigeru Miyamoto is a fan of.

Zelda Fitzgerald was married to F. Scott Fitzgerald. But Robin Williams himself said in an interview about Ocarina of Time 3D that she's named after the video game princess.
