Do I have to be a certain rank or something to apply stuff like coatings because I bought some poison coatings and I cant apply it?

    The bow has to be able to equip it. It'll tell you what coatings are equippable on the last page of the wpn's info, I believe.

    and if it can equip the coating,have the bow drawn and press X and A together to equip it

    Hunter's Bow I can't use poison coating. It can only use power, close range, exhaust, and paint coatings. One of the upgrade paths is the Queen Blaster & Heartshot branch, those can use poison. But you have to upgrade you bow a few times before you get that option.
