So how do I update my copy and download it, I've heard of DLC pack's for games, I just don't know how to get them

First go to the Wii U Menu, and then tap the MK8 icon. A pop-up will appear with a download status for the update. Wait a moment, then the update will be installed. Wait a few more minutes and your copy is updated.

After you restart your newly updated copy, you will see a new option in the main menu called "Shop". Select "Shop", skip the info about the DLC by pressing A several times, and follow the instructions to download it.
