Hi there, Tom at Nintendo here. Part camp director, part Mario Kart enthusiast. Starting today a software update is available for Mario Kart 8 for Wii U that will add a shop feature in the game where you can download three free Mercedes-Benz karts. This include their new GLA, 300 SL Roadster from the 1950s and the legendary Silver Arrow from the 1930s. You might see me out on the online racetracks on the Silver Arrow. With this update, you’ll also have the option to advance purchase two new downloadable content packs that will launch this fall and next spring. Each pack has tons of new content, including new racers like Link from The Legend of Zelda series and Isabelle and Villager from the Animal Crossing series. If you advance purchase both packs, you will immediately be able to race as eight new colors of Yoshi and Shy Guy. To commemorate the occasion a few of us in the office gathered around for a fun race around Toad Harbor. Check it out to see who won!

    How are the DLC and online play going to work together? Will we be divided into the haves and the have nots? Will those who didn't buy the DLC still be able to race against Link in the Blue Falcon? Will the people that I choose to play online with limit my choices of which course to race in?

    MarkerMage, the game would update so that it would recognize DLC even if some players don't purchase it themselves. Even if they don't buy pack 1 you can still race against them as Link.

    dear nintendo we have enough of peach theres to much peach and mario too and why are you making us pay for retro stuff thats not fair. this game is going down the drain. >:( instead of buying dlc im going to play mario kart wii with free dry bowser and wario's gold mine.

    Tom, I have a WiiU, and a 3DS system. There is a problem I have encountered. My first account is permabanned, which is connected to the 3DS. My account currently, a WiiU only device, cannot connect to my 3DS, became it seems that you cannot have more than 1 account on the 3DS systems. Is there a way to fix this? And if not, can you make an update fixing it? Thanks
