Mario Kart Wii vs Mario Kart 8. Why exactly is MK8 better than Wii? Other than the obvious graphic upgrade & new tracks? I'm curious.

  • Allow me to waste your precious time. Although I have never heard anyone comparing Mario Bike with Mario wEight, I can mention possible reason why 8 is better than 6. For starter, 8 > 6. =p

  • Mario Kart Wii got its infamous nickname not only because the introduction of Bikes (and the overall domination against karts), but also because only one bike matter on each weight class: the sport bike.

  • As you know, Karts are better than Bikes in Mario wEight (and Bikes can no longer wheelie, but at least they got a second mini-boost this time), and the sport bikes have less steering during drift compared to Mario Bike.

  • When it comes to variety, both games are awful. But I think that in Mario wEight, the fact that all vehicles are universal (not weight dependent) and at least three tires are worth using, the combination alone makes it better than Mario Bike's "one" type of vehicle. CoughsportbikeCough

  • Now on to items: dear lord, the items in Mario Bike. I remember not using the starting line boost, being last on the first lap, and still ending in first place on the last lap. Unless that darn thunder cloud appeared. =p

  • Mario Bike is definetly the second most chaotic Mario Kart game (first being Double Dash). Giant 'shroom is basically a second starman. The new items in Mario Bike didn't returned in 7, and didn't return on 8 either.

  • The biggest changes Mario wEight got was that you can no longer stack items. Triple items will come out automatically. I have been hearing alot that there is an unbalance of items in this new game, but in my opinion the problem is not the game, is that those same people are not used to the new item rule.

  • I believe that Mario Kart 8 is the better game overall, BUT there are a few things from Mario Kart Wii that I do prefer such as the balloon battle/coin battle mode. I also like the roster better. Granted, this is a MARIO Kart game but the lack of DK characters upsets me.

    Yeahs0
  • First: There is no balance when randomness is involved. Second: Mario Kart games are never known for balanced items. Third: those who think like that probably depend a lot on the Item Box (and they should not). And Fourth: I compare MK8 with BlackJack. If you want to know more about this analogy, let me know.

  • There are a few race tracks that I wish were on here as well such as Moonview Highway, Bowser's Castle and Delfino Square. The bikes were better overall than the karts. I am one who loved inside drifting but I adjusted quickly to the change.

  • Also, the fact that your Mii has to wear a helmet makes me not want to use a mii. It takes away from the look. Mario Kart Wii made using your mii fun because you knew however you designed them, they would turn out the same on MKwii (with the exception of clothing).

    Yeahs0
  • Another thing that I prefer from MKwii is something minor. When you beat a cup, I'd love it if my mii could appear in a picture with the cast just like in MKwii. Overall MK8 is better but MKwii feels so nostalgic to me. Even in it's first month it felt like a game that wouldn't upset me. Simply put it, it was the "nearly" perfect Mario Kart game.

  • You might notice I am a gameplay-obsessed person than an aesthetic-obsessed kinda person. =p

  • What's appealing about Mario Kart games is that they are fun nonetheless. I forgot to mention how I despised that freaking THUNDER CLOUD!!! I hated that thing.

    Yeahs1
  • Gameplay is what ultimately matters. I focus on the smaller things sometimes.

    Yeahs1
  • All joke aside, the amount of babies and koopalings leaves a sour taste for me. They just took out diddy and funky kong, eliminated possibility of Dixie, and took out interesting Mario enemies like Birdo, Dry Bone, and more. Heck, I would have liked riding with Kamek Koopa.

  • Mario Bike has an advatage over Mario wEight with Balloon/Coin Battle. The poor attempt of a joke in Mario wEight is a catastrophe.

  • That's exactly what I mean! Granted, Mario is the FACE of this game, I feel that Nintendo should have excluded every koopaling along with Rose Gold Peach and kept Funky, Diddy, Boo, Dry Bones & Dry Bowser. I do like Shy Guy & Lakitu though.

    Yeahs0
  • Yeah man, that battle mode and exclusion of coin battle on Mario Kart 8 is a debacle all in itself. There isn't much variety on Mario Kart 8 when you compare it to Wii.

    Yeahs1
  • i like mk8 better
