    I can tell, though I could never, for some odd reason, deal with Bongo Bongo's hand without getting hurt (yes, I am aware you're suppose to shoot at them, but my reflexes aren't same as they were on the N64)

    When I played this on N64 I used the ice arrows on 1 of the hands then switch 2 the normal arrow & hit the eye Then slash like crazy then repeat the process.

    I would just use the normal arrows throughout the fight since you're already using magic to track down the eye, and to use more for elemental arrows seem like a waste to me.

    No need to elaberate; you've already told me the details ;) How about trying the Guantlet with only 3-Hearts (I've done it once and not a single death on my charts)...
