    It's been awhile since I played but didn't he write a manifesto of some sort and it was either signed ''The Illusive Man'', or the author was dubbed so by the Alliance. I think!?!

    That's very close, it did come from the Alliance. After he wrote the manifesto the Alliance called it "survivalist rhetoric written by an illusive man" and the nickname stuck.
