Why do hunters try to carve the tail the MOMENT it's cut off while the monster is still in the same area as you!?

As a hunter I came to kick butt and chew bubble gum, and i'm all outta gum. Get the carve done, succeed with a smile With more carves, when you lose the quest, you keep the carve.

No, they fall over and cry like Qurupeclees [baby qurupeco] Succeding in the fight deserves the reward, mmm

It's risk and reward do something dangerous let my friends die while carving it (based on a true story).

I think it's better to focus on the monster first than going for the tail: try to kil it as much as possible before it leaves and once it's gone you can carve. I treat the tail or whatever part that breaks off from a monster as a distraction. However, I can make an exception of taking risks when it comes to hunting Silver, Gold, Lucent, Abyssal and Goldbeard.

There are times in multiplayer where you may miss out on that carve because someone(s) may faint using up the final life/lives. If I'm going for a rath mantle for example and we're down a life or two, I want to carve that tail asap, in case "Quest failed" pops up because others fainted. Though it's a low carve chance, it's 0% chance if you don't carve it at all.

Though, if I'm low on health or know that I'll faint in one shot, I'll heal and/or wait. I usually flash bomb it to give myself and others a chance to carve. Occasionally will even lay a trap to purposely lure it to me as I'm carving so other players get some hits in, assuming they've already carved.

like I said I let my friends take care of the monster while I carve and then I take care of the monster while they carve if it's a shiny I just go for it which now that I think about probably isn't the best idea but I almost never get hit when I do since I'm normally at pretty good health when they do break off.

(Jº■º)J ^ |____|.........Point taken. Lol, I agree that if there were 1-2 lives lost it would make sense to carve asap. However, I would prefer my route if no lives were lost!

@Tatsu- I normally do that when up against monsters too but sometimes they'll ignore me to get to another hunter(s)! Monsters will either take turns going for a hunter and even go for a certain hunter multiple times! I think my point is be prepared to be either attacked or ignored. (post too long =_=)

Listen, if I took the time to cut it off, I should get it Say someone got you a nice dinner, wouldn't you like to eat it first, not wait for them to leave, then eat it. I imagine each broken off part a feast of victory

Dont forget about circumstances, maybe this monster is real tough, maybe you're too chicken, like I said, carve it and continue hunting, running away or staying while your friends or other hunters hunting is not good since each hunter is valuable and ready to hunt

@Aldric-I normally hunt with high rank hunters and low rank ones too. When the tail cuts off I see them dash for it and the moment they start to carve an Ivory Lagiacrus would give them a hip-check, thus them fainting leaving a "sorry" in the chatbox! I want newcomers to understand that you don't NEED to carve the moment it's cut.

However I still agree with Prince: it would be a different story if there were 1-2 lives lost, in fact, I would be one of those hunters who carve asap!

Because its the ultimate taunt that a hunter can make to a monster. Hunter: ¿See how weak you are? that i carve the tail i severed from you just seconds ago in front on you. Is exciting :3

Wait... what? who in right mind would go infront of Ivory Lagiacrus. I thought just tails in general, (you just asked why you get the tail, not enforcing that tails are a danger to get) Geez Ivory Lagiacrus, Deviljho. No cocky hunter should carve infront of them.

I haven't yet let go of the old rumor that the faster you cut and carve a tail, the better your chances of a rare carve are!

@Dominic- Back when I was both in low rank and high rank I used to believe that, however hunters I work with now may sometimes get those rare carves from the tail! So that means that theory of yours actually works once in a while! (....Or maybe I just have bad luck, lol.)

Normally when the tail gets cut off, I usually flash so myself and other hunters can carve the tail. It's the easiest thing to do because then the monster won't come after you.
