    Zelda is a girl's name. Have you ever heard of Zelda Fitzgerald, the wife of the guy who wrote The Great Gatsby, or Zelda Williams, the daughter of the late Robin Williams?

    Back to your question though. I believe that Miyamoto, the guy who created many of the major Nintendo characters, thought it was a good idea to have Link be left handed. After that, it just became tradition with the only exceptions being any games with motion controls.
