未だに信じてる人もいますけど、ルイージの名前の由来はマリオの類似（るいじ）ではありませんよ。それは宮本茂がジョークで言っただけです。実際には先にキャラクターとして存在したマリオと同様イタリアのポピュラーな名前として、任天堂アメリカ法人NOAのスタッフによってルイージと命名されたのです。ちなみにマリオも業務用「ドンキーコング」を米国へ輸出する際にNOAで命名されました（そのためこの時点で名前がない）
