How is that possible? The life counter maxes out at 1110 and is represented with 3 crowns when you get that many.

White. The crowns are white. Are you sure you meant to type 2003? If you meant 203 and accidentally typed 0 twice, then that would be much more believable.

If you want 1110 lives, you can perform a trick in World 1-2. Grab a Koopa shell and take it to one of the crevices with a Clear Pipe in the back. Face sideways, then jump and let go simultaneously.

I did not "give up" collecting lives. The game enforces a cap of 1110 lives. I know this because I collected coins and heard the 1-Up sound a few times, but losing a life brought it to 1109 (★★9).

If you somehow got 4 or more crowns, then your game must be glitched. Restricting it to 3 crowns is standard game behavior.

Here: a screenshot of Luigi performing the trick. Notice that the lives counter is 3 crowns. That means 1110 lives. Jumping on the Koopa shell will not yield any more lives.

yeah thats what it is a glitch lol if you only got 1100 maybe your system is glitched besides check the community forum multiple people have done the same

How is my copy of the game glitched? This behavior happens in Super Mario 3D Land and New Super Mario Bros. 2 as well. Are you going to say that those games are glitched, too?
