    I can't figure it out. I see the fish, get to the fishing menu, and try to equip my pole and worms, but have no success.

    I suggest waiting until you get the Dpole I think it is, fishing is much easier and when you equip the rod and bait cast it out by tapping A, and A again when the power meter goes up n down
