    The key is to take it slow. Hit him 4 times (complete combo) then shield his attack. NEVER PARRY. It takes a while, but I hit him 1000 times (max) without taking damage.

    Jump attack, hit 3-4 times, then hold up shield while back flipping. Jump attack leaves him open for a few and back jumping with shield up means he'll either hit it or you get an occasional parry.

    On the gamecube version I managed to hit him 999 times, at 1000 he says thats enough. I could crush walnuts with my fingers after that!
