    I was planning on having a Black Mage, a White Mage, a Valkyrie, and a Ninja... when do you get the Black Mage, Ninja, and Valkyrie?

    Black Mage is chapter 1, Valkyrie is chapter 2, and Ninja is the end of chapter 3. I'm pretty sure that's right anyway.

    But Knight has a lot of useful abilities for a Valkyrie, Thief has some decent stuff for a Ninja (so does Spell Fencer, when you get that), and Black Mage has a lot of great abilities for Arcanist.

    Arcanist is chapter 4 and Spell Fencer was either 1 or 2. Edea and Tiz have a slight edge in physical jobs and Ringabel and Agnes are slightly better with magic jobs.

    And when I say Edea/Tiz have are slightly better at physical, and Ringabel/Agnes are slightly better at magic, I really mean slightly. They have ~1 point higher in the respective attacks and defenses

    Gear and job make much more of a difference since all 4 characters' stats are really close to identical.

    Yeah, that sounds fine. Summoner is a class and you get it pretty early, but it isn't very good until later, because summons cost too much mp. I've been bouncing between classes,...

    I'm only in chapter 2 now but I'm really liking my spellfencer/knight combo. Using 2-handed plus stomp with a lightning sword =good times. I must say I'm pretty unimpressed with merchant so far (lv4).

    I'm going to complete all the jobs I want to use for each character, and then pick from that giant Skill pool the ones I want. i.e. Max out Black Mage to get Black Magic Max and then max out another.

    I never bothered with Merchent. @Phire: The starting couple job levels only take a few dozen/hundredn JP each, but level 13-14 take 5000, so by switching jobs you could get several to level 9-10 in..
