Okay, time to put my own two cents into this, because the last post just sounded like blind defending/fanboying. My own review will follow below.

  • 1. STORY: ...would have been better without it. Interesting concept with development being overtaken and the shadows being out of Bernd's control, but the blatant ego-stroking drowns it out.

  • 2. GAMEPLAY: I'm fine with it. It's a clear callback to collectathon maze arcade games, and it does that well.

  • 3. LEVEL DESIGN: ...Totally torn on this one. Games that this is a homage to like Pac-Man only used a handful of level designs, although it could be argued that it's no excuse for a modern game.

  • I'm talking about the phase system, Lux's primary complaint. While the differences between 1-2-9 and 1-2-10 are radically different, those between 1-1-1 and 1-1-10 are less noticable and can get dull.

  • 4. AESTHETICS: The first game did it better here. That one was a clear tribute to the advancing video game generations, but there doesn't really seem to be a clear goal in mind with this installment.

  • Also, Kubi's voice simply doesn't work. As several people pointed out when the game was first released, he just plain sounds demonic.

  • 5. DIFFICULTY: You did good here. The enemies love to trap you, and after just surviving there's an extra layer to bust through with the Pixelflies and the ZeLeLi medals.

  • Thank you for your review and feedback - I really appreciate that GoldOnHead. Yeah the first Phases are just for learning. While most players appreciated this slowly rising level of difficulty the game just may really start for hardcore gamers with the later phases. Kubi's voice - you know he had this voice in the first Bit Boy!! game too, so I started to ask everyone I know how to progress with this and it turned out that most people found it funny Kubi hearing with that low voice and I think it makes him a bit more serious. Later in the game he is less grumpy, you may know, and that is where Kubi's voice fits his personalty best in my opinion. Still thinking about changing his voice in the future. How far did you play it? Most reviewers told me that they more they played it the better it gets - maybe cause of its evolutionary design or cause the player grows with the game.   • As for how far I am, I'm in 2-1 right now, though I've played the other levels in Quick Run (Seriously, adding that mode was a very good idea.) I do really enjoy the game despite my criticism.

  • You just played the first level? Also tried the action phases? Or do you mean WORLD 2-1 (PixelSea) Play it more I'm sure you will enjoy it much more cause the further the game goes the more variation comes. I try to keep in contact with people who play my game to get a feeling of whats cool and where to improve. I heared that story and levels get more interesting after reaching the ROUND WORLD. There are also 2 Endings - so keep playing - and keep posting screenshots so I and others can follow you. Daan Koopman told me at GamesCom 2013 that he just wants to enjoy playing - with no need of a high level difficulcy so I created the QUICK RUN MODE. You can always activate the EASY MODE there too. But you'll miss special-phases, BOSS and story. [=)]

  • I'm the type of person who has to grind and finish everything as I progress. I have to beat every phase 100% before i move onto the next level. I don't have enough play coins to go further yet :p

  • Of course, even through this I purposely left one pixelfly uncollected in Flat Garden so I can see both endings even during this. I like to see everything.
