Fighting a member of the Black Dragon Clan (that was ususally dear to you) has always been a motif throughout the Breath of Fire Series. Frist Ray, then Teepo, then Fou-Lu, and then sort of Bosch.

Geez, the developers didn't hold back killing a handful of people during the grand church scene. Tiga, Claris, Ray, Daisy, and potentially Ganer.
