people think 5th gen is worse than 1st gen i can't be hearing that right.they've must've never played first gen. it's bland boring outdated slow and all around bad.5th gen has a solid story,great map,design,quick,gorgeous,OUTSTANDING characterization amazing pokemon and a pretty good music.it's your opinion (or someone elses.)

    Yes, it may be outdated, but it was amazing in it's time, and it didn't have a garbage bag pokemon. Yes, it did have a sludge pokemon, but atleast there wasn't a garbage bag which isn't very creative. Imo, if both were updated to current pokemon standards, gen 1 would be better.

    The funny thing is, many people dislike Unova BECAUSE of the effort put into it. Personally, I loved Unova, but others must have been jarred by the change of the way they'd been doing things for four generations.

    I can't help but think that you are comparing the graphics, engine, roster, and design from both games at face value without taking into consideration budget, time period, and available technology. In which case one would seem more appealing to the other, and this is generally considered a bad way to compare two games of different generations.

    That's just your opinion, it is a truly amazing game, as it's the one that started it all, and will always be remembered for that, whereas gen 5 will be remembered as the game with the "trash" pokemon.

    a truely good game is timeless.do you know what that means no matter how old it is it will always be good.as far as graphics go there were many better looking games on the system while gen 5 was one of the best on the ds in my opinion.there are fan games that have no budget that are better than gen 1.

    Every generation will be remembered for something undesirable. For example, Gen 3 is infamous for having so many water routes, and Gen 4 for Mt. Coronet being a pain to travel through.

    I like the music from both games, but the 8-bit music from generation I is more timeless than the largely computerized music from Generation V.

    That is true, but this was in the 90s! These games had some pretty dang good graphics on a handheld for that time, and these "no budget" games had WAY more technology available when being made. You don't judge a book by it's cover, and so you shouldn't judge a game by it's graphics. I'm sure if the graphics were reversed, you'd like gen 1 better.

    Also, you said that the story of gen 1 is bad, but gen 5's story is good, BUT, gen 5's story is pretty much the same thing: Bad guys trying to take over the region for some final plot to rule or something like that. Then protagonist comes and destroys bad guys, and in both games, the champion has just been beaten by someone else, right as you get there.

    it's the same basic formula only difference is that gen 5 actually has good characterization.giovanni and blue are really the only established characters everyone else is irrelevant.cheren,bianca, juniper,ghetsis,n,zinzolin,elesa(to an extent) and alder.alder is easily the best character in the entire series because of what he represents.

    @ian i wasn't only judging it by it's graphics that's what was brought up so i expanded upon it.story plays a major role in a rpg of ANY kind almost more than gameplay(notice i said rpgs).the only reason why i even know any of gen 1's pokes because they've been smashed into my face and rubbed in by those obnoxious genwunners.
