    Regular circle stumps (like that one there) are only for sitting on and looking pretty, but stumps with designs on them can, uhm, 'spawn' mushrooms around them :)

    There's no specific tree that more commonly has patterns, but your chance of revealing a pattern stump rises if you use a silver or golden axe to cut down a tree. Different trees (like cedar, fruit, or non-fruit) have different stump patterns though!

    I believe you can get the silver axe at the island, and the golden axe is sold at Leif's to commemorate buying 50 trees (it takes FOREVER).
