Crazy idea, what if the characters that are unlockable in Wii U are different then 3DS & the unlocked characters (and maybe stages) are what get transfer. Good way to allow them to keep some characters hidden, makes it worth buying & investing time in both systems, & give us 12 characters without having to resort to DLC. Also would explain all that empty data.
