I'm sad at how badly nerfed Olimar is in this game. Three Pikmin just aren't as effective as six, and they seem to get separated more easily.

  • Not to mention that not only you can reflect the thrown pikmins with reflector, now you can reflect the Forward/Down Smash too, making Fox/Falco hard counters for Olimar. IIRC, in Brawl you couldn't do that.

  • The Pikmin no longer grow flowers to. I can never seem to actually knock someone out of the map with Olimar anymore.

I guess it all comes down to personal preference. I'm pretty sure you could reflect Pikmin Throw in Brawl, but I'm not sure about his Smash attacks.

Wait, they don't mature?! I was wondering why they weren't doing that in Smash Run! I had just figured that I kept letting them die too quickly.

  • Yes, Pikmin throw is reflect-able in Brawl, but I don't remember about smashes... I think they weren't...(?) Nevertheless, at least you can more easily get the Pikmins you want, now that they always appear in selected order. Still, Olimar is unusable for me, just like he was in Brawl. Still doesn't mean he's bad overall, just not my style.

  • They still grow flowers, just not in the 3DS version.

I had to adjust to use Olimar in Brawl, so now it'll take even more adjustment. By the way, Pikmin are shown with flowers and buds in screenshots for the Wii U version, so it seems like it's version-exclusive, this time.

  • Olimar's foward smash can no longer push opponents off ledges, and instead of headbutting, he punches, which is more accurate to the games.

  • I fought a wicked good Olimar online, better than all the Macs I've seen. He's stronger now and his attacks have better range, plus the Pikmin Throw is more useful.

  • I said that wrong. I meant his F-Smash can no longer push Pikmin off ledges.

  • I don't mind olimar to be "Badly nerfed" honestly. 3 Pikmin don't really matter to me,I think his recovery better, and I find him stronger. Sakurai said he had some shortcomings but I honestly don't see it. I don't see the nerf honestly.

I knew what you meant! That's a very helpful addition.

  • Well a lot of changes were made because of the 3DS limitations. Olimar. No more switch able characters, no waddle des for DeDeDe, no ice climbers. No special smash, etc…

  • He hasn't been too nerfed in my opinion. If you can get close, his side smash has great knockback. Though now difficult, his Up smash is still good. His U and B air are Ko moves, and N air is way more defensive. Since Pikmin are easier to lose, you'll be needing to use Olimar's Pikmin-less moves, preferably down tilt, up tilt, and Nair, more often. D Tilt is beast at early % and gives great defense.

  • With most chars, you can D tilt 3 times, up tilt, then use a N air, dealing somewhere around 30-40%.Blue throws deal lots of damage, whites have great pummels. Purples are very good for edge guarding if you can connect, and can be used for defense. Olimar now uses Pikmin Throw more as a shield to absorb dangerous projectiles, like Arcthunder. Avoid landing while using Pikmin Order and dash dancing.
