So apparently Sakurai chose the name of the system for the subtitle of the game to avoid confusion. Commenting on the title he said "However, for both systems 'Smash Bros. for' is included in the title, so isn't that nice?". Yes Sakurai, wow, that's so nice, wow.

    Sakurai said he considered Smash for Wii U as Smash 5, so that "for" is a bit misleading.

    It actually makes sense. Some people really get confused about stuff like that, there are still tons of people who don't know Wii U is different than the Wii.

    What irks me is that he considers the 3DS version and the WiiU version to be separate games. How? They both have the same roster and the same game mechanics. Shouldn't they both be considered just one game in two different systems?

    @Jonathan well they're the same mechanics in roster and mechanics, but the Wii U version will have plenty the 3DS doesn't have. Yet unrevealed modes such as the Wii U equivalent to Smash Run, new stages, new music, and the use of Amiibo figures. I could see why Sakurai considers it a different game.
