After the krogan assisted in stopping the rachni in 300 CE, the council rewarded the krogan with a statue on the presidium, several captured rachni worlds and new planets for the krogan to colonize.

The krogan were given an embassy on the Citadel and a krogan ambassador was appointed. Over the next 400 years the quick-breeding krogan expanded exponentially. They began to colonize other worlds.

At first, the council was tolerant. The krogan were heroes. But they grew concerned. In 693CE the council took precautionary steps, creating the office of Special Tactics and Reconnaissance (SpecTRe).

In 700CE the krogan invaded the asari colony of Lusia. The council demanded the krogan withdraw. Warlord Kredak, the krogan ambassador, stormed off the citadel daring them to take their world back.

But the Spectres were already in place. They cut off krogan supply lines from Thessia's mass relay. They inflicted massive casualties and the krogan on Lusia surrendered, but the rest were spurred on.

The Spectres hit the krogan with strategic strikes. They released extranet viruses on krogan worlds. Sabotaged anti-matter refineries, and destroyed stations. But the krogan has limitless reserves.

The council made first contact with the turians, turning to them for aid. Even with the Spectres the council couldn't match the krogan's brute force and sheer numbers. They needed the turian military.

The turians set up hidden command centres such as Pinnacle Station to launch successful attacks against krogan bands. The krogan's response was to smash asteroids and stations on to turian colonies.

This only served to strengthen turian resolve and unit them against the krogan. But when the turians realized the krogan would never surrender, they turned to the salarians for scientific assistance.

In 710CE the salarians developed the genophage bioweapon to use against the krogan. They thought it would be used as a deterrent but the turians used it without hesitation, spreading it over Tuchanka.

The krogan could no longer rely on their fertility, stopping some from fighting, but others, like the female Warlord Shiagar didn't give up. Shiagar actually used her fertility to rally krogan to her.

When she was finally killed by turians at the battle of Canrum, the krogan males she seduced into joining her swore revenge on those responsible. The krogan hunted down and killed thousands of them.

As the war progressed the krogan were pushed back. The remaining warlords like Jerrod and Okeer retreated to their home system. The krogan returned to tuchanka to regroup and replenish their forces.

With a declining population the krogan were forced to surrender in 800CE, but some individual Warlords continued to fight on their own, some as pirates. The krogan system became a Demilitarized Zone.

The council then created the Citadel Conventions which categorized Weapons of Mass Destruction as any weapon that rendered a garden world uninhabitable, like asteroids, and forbade their use.

After the war there was great public outcry to tare down the Krogan Monument on the presidium but the council refused saying that the aid the krogan gave during the rachni war should not be forgotten.
