Hello,I'm Tadashi Sugiyama, the producer. Are you keeping up with your goals? The cold weather outside may discourage you to be active, but that's not a problem with Wii Fit U! Here's some more trivia about the Fit Meter. As you all know, you can check your progress in a graph on Wii Fit U that shows your Fit Meter activity in detail like altitude and METs. Today,I would like to go in detail about how it measures the "Ascending"and"Decending". The Fit Meter does not only measure altitude, but combines data from the pedometer and METs to determine if you are actually working out.If the meter is programmed just to measure a altitude,it would detect that you are exercising even when you are staying still in an elevator or a vehicle. However, there is also a small problem with this feature;if you are climbing a mountain or some stairs very slowly, the Fit Meter may not recognize that you're walking. When we were still developing Wii Fit U,I actually climbed Mt.Fuji wearing a Fit Meter. When I returned to Kyoto and checked,it did capture the change of altitude, but even after all that hard work, the meter didn't think I climbed it because I had to walk very slowly to not get altitude sickness. During your next hike, just remember that your hard work might not register if you have to go very slow. Also, when you climb mountains like Mt.Fuji with or without a Fit Meter, remember to follow the instructions and advice given by the guides and don't overwork yourself! Just FYI, the Altitue Challenge within the Fit Meter Challenges only records activities that were recognized as you walking u@wards.I doubt that anyone would try gaining altitude points by getting on an elevator, though.
