    Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy were pretty different, not to mention relatively recent. SM3DL was pretty innovative in 3D technology.

    Super Mario 64 was very innovative for it's time with emphasis on exploring a 3D environment. The NES/SNES games could be argued as the most rehashy, but they innovatived platforming.
