All I was thinking during the Amiibo announcement was, "Yay, something else to ban for Smash tournaments."

  • maybe because tournaments and the competitive scene aren't the way the game was intended to play...

  • Is it impossible for you to realize that Smash Bros. can be both competitive AND a simple party game?

    Yeahs0
  • Besides, I'm not even a mainly competitive player, I'm simply defending the competitive players. Dissing someone because of their playstyle is just plain immature.

    Yeahs0
  • sure I can. if fact i play mostly competitive with my friends. the problem is when people go into a post like the one we were in and basically say 'if it doesnt work in a competitive scene it shouldnt be made' which is what everyone was doing. the initial post was about a control option for someone who wanted to play locally with family or friends and then the tourney kids came and said dumb...

    Yeahs0
  • idea, it's not going to work in a tournament. an argument then arised because the competitive players couldn't see the value in something that doesn't directly cater to them. plus the idea that the game was meant to be competitive is wrong by what sakurai says, its fine if you do it but dont act like people who dont are below them and their ideas are stupid because it doesnt work for tournaments.

  • We weren't hating on any controllers. I'm all for the Pro Controller. This argument started because Kelvin claimed the GCN adapter should not exist.

    Yeahs0
  • His reasoning for which was stupid, he acted as if he was being forced to use the GameCube controller.

    Yeahs0
  • the first comment is literally 'wireless controllers are bad for tournaments'. thats what i mean in the tourney players dismissing an idea because it wouldn't work for them. when he stated what they could improve and why he doesnt like the controller they acted like he was ignorant because he wasnt competitive, then a trollfest ensued.

    Yeahs0
  • He said that because it was actually relevant to our point. The GCN adapter was released for competitive players. Kelvin said the Pro Controller is better, but the fact is, it can't be used for tournaments like the GameCube controller can. The Pro Controller will work great when it comes to casual play, but the GCN controller is required for tournaments, hence the adapter's release.

    Yeahs0
  • thats only if you believe the hypothetical pro controller would only be used for smash bros like the GC adapter will be. Future Wii U games with traditional controls or for games where the third party is too lazy to use the gamepad and Virtual Console games through GC in place of the current pro controller which is just a xbox rip off, would also benefit. it never had to be only a smash controller

    Yeahs0
  • Where exactly do I imply that the Pro Controller will only be used for Smash? I know that it is used for games such as Wind Waker or Super Mario 3D World, I use it myself.

    Yeahs0
  • sounds like implying when you said '... said the Pro Controller is better, but the fact is, it can't be used for tournaments like the GameCube controller can'. And that's the thing again with competitive players saying it doesnt work for them so the value isnt there.

    Yeahs0
  • I've used my Pro Controller countless times, but I definately won't use it often for Smash Bros. I'm not completely dismissing the controller, it's just that I'm used to the GCN controller, making it the "Superior" controller to me. If you choose to use the Pro it's fine by me.
