I just tried to turn off my Wii U, but only the gamepad turned off. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Does it mean the gamepad is actually optional, and we just don't know that?

    Not now, I'm testing which games aren't effected by this. So far, Mario Kart 8 works great. There are no signs of the gamepad being needed.
