  • In 2183 the Systems Alliance Space Vehicle Normandy Stealth Reconnaissance-1 (SSV Normandy SR-1 was commissioned and co developed by the Earth System Alliance and the Turian Hierarchy under funding from the Citadel Council. The Normandy was a prototype, the first in its class, to test new and innovative means of building ships as well as improving relations between Humans and Turians.

  • The Normandy uses a state-of-the-art stealth system which cloaks its internal heat sink which would otherwise be easily detected in the cold blackness of space. The Normandy temporarily stores its heat sink within the hull of the ship until it can be expelled. This makes the Normandy incredibly useful for solo deep scout missions deep within enemy territory.

  • The Normandy cost billions to manufacture. For the same cost a heavy cruiser could have buit. The element zero needed to operate the Normandy's unique Tantalus Drive Core which powers the stealth system cost 120 billion credits alone. The same cost as drive cores for 12,000 fighters. Some in the Alliance feel this cost is too high to pay, others see the potential in the ship's capabilities.

  • The Normandy is divided into three decks. The Command Deck houses the bridge for the pilot. Like most ships, large windows open up on the stars to encourage recruitment, they serve no other purpose as the ship uses scanners. The airlock beside the bridge has decontamination systems for the shore party. The Combat Information Center lies in the center, and the comm room further back.

  • The Normandy CIC differs from standard Alliance ships. The CO's station on the Normandy is located towards the back so he can look over his subordinates rather than the center with the other officers. Its utilizes Turian design. The engineers wanted to test how that structure worked as well with humans as it does with turians.

  • Two stairwells towards the back of the ship's CIC leads down to the second deck. The crew deck, which contains not only the crew sleeper pods, equipment lockers, and the captain's private cabin/office, but also the mess hall and medical room. The escape pod hatches are also located on the second deck.

  • An elevator then leads down to deck 3 where you can find engineering and the ship's drive core as well as the garage which holds the M35 Mako. The squad's lockers and weapons are also located here per Alliance regulations as well as a work bench for maintenance and applying mods.

  • However, after the Normandy's very first mission ended in failure, the Normandy suffered the loss of it's first crewman, Richard L Jenkins. The Normandy received a transfer and Ashley Williams joined the ship as Gunnery Chief. After Shepard became Spectre and sent after Saren, Anderson stepped down. Command of the Normandy was given to Shepard, and Pressly was promoted to Executive Officer.

  • After Shepard set out a news feed was broadcasted unveiling the Normandy to the galaxy. The shp then took part in several historic missions, including leading the Alliance fleets against Sovereign in the Battle of the Citadel. After proving her worth, other Normandy Class frigates went into production to bulster the Alliance military.

  • Three months later, while out scouting, the Normandy was attacked by a Collector cruiser. Even with the Normandy's stealth system the Collectors' advanced technology allowed them to locate and destroy the Normandy. Most of the crew escaped in the life pods, but several were still killed including Pressly and Shepard, who died saving Moreau from the burning collapsing ship.
