What's the point in reserve tanks?

How are they any different from energy tanks?

  • Really they're just 4 extra tanks. The only difference is you don't really see them so they're like a second wind when you would have died.

  • They're exactly what they say they are, reserve energy for when you need it. Think of it as a canteen of sorts; if you run out of Energy, and they have some stored, you can use it right away, or set it to Auto to kick-in when you'd lose all of your Energy to Jumpstart where you would have died. You have to have Full Energy Tanks to fill the Reserve Tanks, and it's not hard to do!

  • If you want to die very quickly, you may prefer reserve tanks because you don't have to use them. And (Spoiler!) the Metroid in the end doesn't damage your reserve tanks, so you can just use them afterwards.
