    It's because it's an Escalation Battle. You can challenge the stage hundreds of times (stage levels), with each beaten level adding to the % catchability rate (stage level 1 = 1% catch rate, level 2 = 2%, so on and so forth). The more you try, the easier (RNG-willing) it is to catch.

    What she said^ But also, escalations never show that you've caught them for some reason. It doesn't make sense to me either. But that's just how it is.

    Correction: they don't show up on the Stage Select screen until you tap on them.

    It seems that in the mobile version, they apparently show the Pokéball icon if you caught it. Hopefully, this feature comes to 3DS soon.
