    I'm guessing you've never done Escalation Battles before. Basically, each Level you beat = the Catchability the Pokémon will have. While this does mean you're guaranteed to catch them at Level 50-99 using a Great Ball or Level 100 with just a normal Poké Ball, you can get it sooner than that. Also, EB's aren't just for catching the Pokémon in them. There are lots of prizes as well.
