Swap (and it's + variants) is an ability that triggers randomly when using the pokemon that has it to make a match. It replaces a disruption (coins, or breakable or unbreakable blocks) with said pokemon. Because of the order in which effects resolve, making a match with a swap pokemon that would break unbreakable blocks, might trigger the swap effect and turn them into the pokemon instead.

It is a good ability to try and trigger in stages with a lot of disruptions (like Mega Gengar, or Onix), or if used in conjunction with a mega pokemon who's effect removes pokemon of the same type, (like Mega Mewtwo, or Mega Banette). It is not good in stages where the opponent generates non-support pokemon (like Kakuna, or Jigglypuff).
