going to try to build an OU balance team again since it's been like a year since I built a balance team, I'm kind of tired of building offense (both hyper-offense and bulky offense, though I trend toward the former) teams, and I think I've proven that I'm irredeemably bad at building stall/semi-stall teams (and they bore me to death anyway).

  • Hmm... I can never bring myself to going by tiers. Should I? My team has stuff like adamant Mega Beedrill with heavy investment into attack and speed EVs with a good speed IV. But then I come up with stuff like Eviolite Rhydon, Focus Sash Kingler, and Probopass. Just Probopass. Those haven't worked for me yet but I like to have them on my team...

  • rhydon and probopass are actually quite effective in their respective tiers (NU and PU, respectively) for that matter, Rhydon isn't unusable in OU since it has high Attack, a good STAB combination, decent bulk thanks to Eviolite, and Rock Polish to boost its poor speed. too bad Ground-types and Scald are everywhere in OU but if you don't want to play by the Smogon tiers you don't have to

  • I study Smogon alot despite not playing with tiers... I've since evolved my Rhydon into a Rhyperior for dex completion. It's usable in RU and OU formats from what the site tells me and has actually done me quite well. i dunno what i'm going on about here.

  • well I mean you don't have to let the Smogon analyses deter you from using a specific Pokémon in a certain tier, Slurpuff doesn't have an OU analysis for example and I've had a decent amount of success with it while playing OU but yeah, Rhyperior is certainly usable in OU. I personally think it's a tad outclassed by Tyrantrum as a Rock-type wallbreaker but it does have advantages that (cont)

  • (cont) make it worth using such as STAB on Earthquake, an immunity to Thunder Wave, and better bulk, among other things.

  • Mmkay. Well. after like. A 2 year hiatus. I decided to get back into competitive Pokémon and I'm going in fresh and anew with a Mega Beedrill. I'll see how that goes for me..
