Ok, but in defense of gen 1's Pokemon designs.

It was their first Pokemon game. How were they supposed to screw up a design or not meet fan expectations? You keep comparing modern Pokemon to older Pokemon as if that's valid. Please keep in mind that I'm not a genwunner.

    The problem is not that the Gen I designs are awful, but that the future designs are disregarded and are generally depicted as worse than these. Like Magnemite/ton and Voltorb are good designs in my opinion. Dugtrio, Rattata and stuff are bad and just as guilty as bin bag and ice cream. Ignoring cool stuff like Tapu Koko, Golurk, Garchomp etc. and praising only cool Gen I stuff is the problem.

    What about Koffing? Or Venusaur's back sprite? I understand they didn't have anything to go by at that point, but I feel they could have put more effort into the sprites, at least compared to the anime. I know the games came before the anime then, but it wasn't so for Japan, was it?

    But pointing out gen 1's bad designs is really only ever done in defense of the newer designs genwunners mock and claim that are bad compared to gen 1's designs.

    I will say though in defence of their point, Gen V was pretty abstract for my liking. And if they keep making stuff like Dugtrio with a wig or Garfield, at this rate they will have a real point to their complaint.

    People just love to complain about stuff. Everyone complains about the new games and compare them to older ones, but when Game Freak does the same things for each game people say they're "unoriginal" or that Game Freak is running out of ideas.
