Is it possible to save without dying or use of VC?

Just wanted to ask if it is possible to save without dying without using virtual console save/load point.

    It is possible. Ii can't exactly remember how at the moment. But the digital game manual tells you how to. Keep in mind, you need to switch between 1st player and 2nd player controllers while you save.

    Open the subscreen. If on 3DS, hold L and R; when the controller icons show up [bottom right of top screen], press the prompted key [Y, I think] to switch to Controller 2. Press Up & A, then switch back to Controller 1 and use Select and Start to choose SAVE.
