Star Fox Zero

I hope Nintendo will stick with this art style for Star Fox in the next game. It would be nice to have consistency for a change. One (nitpicky) thing that always bothered me about Assault and Command is how different some characters look. Katt is the biggest offender, being basically unrecognisable in Command.

  • @Big Boy: Oh yeah, I do like some of the Assault designs. The outfits and vehicles in that game were awesome! Wolf is one of the better ones. I'm glad he has a full stripe muzzle back in Zero though, if only cause it makes him look less like grey Fox, if that makes sense XD. Guess what I mean is, it would be nice if the styles matched for games which are connected. Like...

  • Retro Studios' Donkey Kong Country games don't look all that different to Rare's games. Mario's 3D games generally stick to a similar style so it's easy to tell they're connected. It's been different with Star Fox as it's been handed around to so many companies, and various artists too.

Fox looked awful in Assault. Not sure what that was about. Same with Pigma. I hope they keep these voices too lol

Peppy and wolf were the most well done characters in assault. I must admit, I like the charm of how bad falcos voice acting is. Whoever was the guy, he wasn't as good as everyone else.

  • @Fox: Totally agree, Fox both looked and sounded wooden. I think Leon had one of the worst voices too. It's like a gremlin, lol.

  • Ohh. Let's Not Forget How Old Everyone Looked in Assault.. Peppy and General Pepper mainly .. wasn't really a Fan of the Suits everyone there was wearing. Wolf was perfectly fine though!

  • Wasn't a fan of their suits either. But the character development were pretty well done. Story was also pretty interesting. The mechanics were clumsy but okay. Switching vehicules was a nice thing. Assault is one of my favorite StarFox game alongside StarFox, StarFox 64 and StarFox Zero.

  • For StarFox Command, I found the game pretty much... unpolished. Missions were almost about all the same, only controlled with the stylus, multiple soap-opera lame stories,... It had its good moments but that's about it. I agree the best art style right now is Zero's although this nostalgia in me loves the art style in the StarFox comic strips secretly the most.

  • @Teraƒox: Pepper also looks like a completely different type of dog, more like a bloodhound O.o. Compare Assault style to even Adventures and it's jarring as heck. @Kate: That would basically be SNES style then, right? XD Except more detailed.

  • I prefer comic book/ star fox 2 art style but i'm happy that star fox zero has gone with the ol' thunderbirds aesthetic for the characters.

  • Never was attracted by those puppets. Let's say I much more prefer how they look in the comics, that's all. I'm a big comic fan (even I try drawing mine at the very moment) so these creepy puppets never interested me. Even for Zero. XD Although that nostalgia feel was amazing.

  • That's why I love StarFox Zero characters' design. Not much difference between the game and the animated short's (yes, I know it's taken from the game anyway. Still looks amazing).

  • Glad I'm not the only one who's announced by that. Assault is only supposed to take place a YEAR after and everyone looks, sounds and acts different.

  • Every characters in every game after StarFox 64 were different in every way, if only keeping some attributes in common. It's only with StarFox Zero that they went back to the original vocals and personalities (thank God, although I hate Slippy voicing still today). I think StarFox Adventures is the game that drastically changed everything and Assault the one trying to put the series back on trail.

  • But I have mixed feeling about Command. Mainly because of these lame soap-opera stories. Krystal started as an amazing warrior in Dinosaur Planet, turned into a Princess Zelda (in a bikini) from Ocarina of Time in StarFox Adventures, then becomes an Arwing pilot with only a pterodactyl license, to end up crying because "Fox was mean to me!". What happened to her, specifically?!

  • See, I think even though Adventures changed a lot, it still looks like it can follow from 64 (You know, apart from being mostly reskinned Dinosaur Planet). It's just Rare-ified. Assault changed everything, so much so that if you didn't know it was a sequel, it might as well be standalone. I really like the Thunderbirds homage puppets. The 2015 reimagining even as cgi uses that look well.

  • Command did a lot of weird things for everyone, but I think that's been pretty well covered, lol. But yeah, even that's mostly a wild change from Assault's aesthetic.

  • The only things Assault brought was character development and a new story. I personally think this one is much more a follow-up to 64 than that diluted Zelda, although so visually beautiful.

  • StarFox Adventures is clearly the standalone, here.

  • Gameplay wise yeah Assault is definitely closer, I'm not talking about gameplay here though, literally just the visuals and art style XD.
