    Another, lesser-known fact is that there was this company that asked Nintendo to port SMB3 to the MS-DOS and sent in a cruddy proof-of-concept. Nintendo turned them down because Mario is way too dang awesome to be on anything other than a Nintendo console and later, smartphones. (I don't like saying 'crud'. I prefer something different but I'm not entirely sure that I'm allowed to say it.)

    Yep. And the company who approached Nintendo was Id Software, the guys behind Doom. (They were named Ideas from the Deep, or IFD, at the time.)
