Wait...why is Zygarde not Shiny Locked but still impossible to get as a Shiny?

Last night, when I was searching the Internet to see what Pokemon were Shiny Locked in what games, I came across something quite shocking about Zygarde. If you didn't know, Zygarde is coded in every Pokemon game since X and Y to never be Shiny, including Sun and Moon. But as it turns out, its actually NOT Shiny Locked.

  • Um, what? "Coded not to be shiny" is what shiny locked means

  • In previous Pokemon games since Generation 5, if a certain Pokemon was Shiny Locked, it would stay Shiny Locked for the rest of the Generation, excluding any would-be Wi-Fi events. For those who don't know what it is, a Shiny Lock is an extra piece of coding implemented into certain Legendary and Mythical Pokémon to prevent the player from ever possibly encountering it as a Shiny Pokémon.

  • You just contradicted yourself there: shiny locked means that the encounter in question can not be shiny no matter what. Yes there is a shiny version, but under normal gameplay circumstances, it shouldn't exist.

  • This trend has applied to the version mascots of every Pokemon game since Black and White 1, and also applies to special Legendary Pokemon such as Victini in Black and White 1 and Rayquaza and Deoxys in ORAS. Plus, every Legendary Pokemon in X and Y and Sun and Moon is Shiny Locked. However, with Zygarde being coded to never be Shiny but not being Shiny Locked...this may change.

  • Coded to not be shiny = in game twill never be shiny Shiny Locked = Same as above, but includes any and all events With that said, we might be getting a Shiny Zygarde event sometime in the future. Just not yet. I still want a Pink Celebi dang it...

  • Are you feeling ok? "Coded never to be shiny" is what shiny locked means. It doesn't mean it won't be an event someday, like shiny Xerneas and shiny Yveltal were.

  • *Troy* I'm getting to that. As steted earlier, Shiny Locks only apply to the specific Generation in which a Pokemon is Shiny Locked. The problem is that Zygarde is Shiny Locked in X and Y, which means it technically is in ORAS as well outside of any Wi-Fi events, and this follows the pattern stated earlier. Something similar to this happened to Reshiram in Zekrom in all Generation 5 games.

  • It's probably because Xerneas and Yveltal were released as shinies through an event in X and Y, while Zygarde never was. This likely means its shiny will be released at a later date, if at all.

  • And now to pose my guess: I know what you are saying. "Shiny coding and Shiny Locks are two different things." Yes, I know that, but in Zygarde's case, it has all the necessary requirements to break this pattern. Its not a mascot Legendary, it didn't debut in Generation 7, and it's not Shiny Locked. Using an exploit similar to the Manaphy gift from Pokémon Ranger, I think I found an answer...

  • What if Zygarde WAS obtainable as a Shiny in a later Generation 7 game and was then traded over to Sun and Moon? This is the only way to possibly explain how it's not Shiny Locked to Generation 7 but it's coded to never be Shiny in the first Sun and Moon games. It will probably be available in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, anyway, meaning everything fits perfectly.

    Yeahs0
  • At this point, my guess is just a theory, so let me know what you think! Every Pokémon that has been Shiny Locked has also had that extra coding set in the Generations they were Shiny Locked in...until now. Is Shiny Zygarde FINALLY going to be available in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon? If so, I'm definitely going to hunt for one. But fo now, we can only wait and guess about the mystery of Zygarde...

    Yeahs0
  • There is a hole in that logic: you know who else isn't a major legend, and has yet to get a shiny released? Celebi, victini, keldeo, and meloetta. And it's been years since their release. While yes, there is a chance we could see shiny zygarde, but we'll never know until it happens.

  • There are practically no restrictions to this gens trading. If you de-ribbon last year's Meloetta, it can be wonder traded. That doesn't mean we'll get a Meloetta that is legitimately Wonder Trade-able.

  • I... did not get anything you just said

  • shiny celibi? wait that hasn't ever bedn a thing or not this gen back in oras i have one from a event in 0/12 or was it 13...

  • So what's the reasoning for saying that Zygarde is not shiny locked in Gen 7? It is both coded to not be shiny and it is blocked by the online legality checker. It's still possible that there could be a shiny Zygarde in USM, but it doesn't seem like there's any evidence of that right now. @spartan: Technically only in Gen 2, where you could SR the Japanese Crystal event, but it can't leave Gen 2.
